My Condo-mini

Hi there,

I was reading my bucket list this evening and came across a life event I cannot believe I forgot to post about!

I became a home owner 2 years ago. Not just any home Owner…A homeowner of one of the smallest condo in the city of Edmonton! Please guess how small…. now take that number and go even lower.

My condo is 335 square feet, has two rooms (a bathroom and an open living space which makes up my kitchen, living room, dining room, office, breakfast nook and bed room). On top of all that, it has an unobstructed view of the city’s river valley! It is one of a kind and all mine!

Tiny homes seems to be the trend right now and I can’t express how happy I am that I was able to find a home that was within my price range, affordable to operate and allows me to use no more then I need.

The building I’m in was built in 1963. The unit I purchased still has the original kitchen cupboards, but other than that, everything has been upgraded. The stove and fridge are apartment sized and absolutely adorable. The fem hood doesn’t work and as its south facing, will be really warm in the summer. There is no in-suit laundry which I quite enjoy, there’s something nice about socializing while organizing my darks and lights.

Designing the interior of the unit was challenging. Everything in the unit had to have a minimum of 2 functions. As the standard North American house is well over 1000 square feet, finding multipurpose furniture that did not cost a fortune or require shipping from Europe was a challenge. I ended up watching countless YouTube videos looking for ideas of how to adapt IKEA furniture and in some cases taking custom furniture design ideas and bringing them to my local handyman.

I distinctly remember emailing Lyle (the best handyman in this city) a YouTube video of something similar to my now pop-down dining room table (which seats 6) and asking him to create a replica of the table in the video.  It was a fun project and I’m thrilled with the outcome.

Oh… did I mention I found out about the condo on Kijiji!!!!! Yes Kijiji acts as a realty site!

The tiny space I call home has been featured in our local community magazine, The YARDS and on Global Toronto‘s website. Have a look at the photos below.
