Raw Food in Edinburgh

Day 18

I have yet to really explore the raw food culture here in Edinburgh, so today I ventured off with my map and backpack to ORB Cafe. This local raw food shop just opened three weeks ago. It’s a quaint little place with cozy chairs and a raw, down to earth vibe. There are a two things I really liked about the place.

  • The menu changes on a daily basis depending on the availability of local organic produce.
  • The shop is run by locals and the owner was there taking orders and helping out in the kitchen which shows how truly passionate she is about her business.

I had a raw Pad Thai with cauliflower rice. It was quite tasty and really filling. After moving towards a more whole fruit based diet I’m finding gourmet raw food really heavy. Still if your new to raw food, this would be a great dish for you.

This evening I attended a raw dessert workshop with Twist and Sprout at Urban Angel Cafe. Lorna and Susan did a fabulous job showing the group how to make a raw chocolate torte. The base of the torte is made out of dates, coconut and hazelnuts and the creme on top is avocado, cacao, coconut oil, coconut sugar, vanilla powder and agave. That’s all topped with thawed berries! As always the girls were super knowledgeable about their ingredients, method and nutritional facts. Not only did I get a chance to grab some great notes on raw dessert prep but I also got a chance to eat one of the delicious treats! Oh yes they have a you tube channel. Chick here to watch.

On the way home I stopped in Princes Street Gardens and listened to some jazz. What a great way to welcome a sunset.

  1. Great review on the Raw Food scene in Edinburgh. very informative. I am near the Earthy Cafe at the bottom of Broughton Road, not raw but very wholesome. More Living Food culture would be great in this wonderful city.
